Rapunzel blinked her green eyes in confusion as she walked through the street and peered around at the buildings and village houses, which just a second ago had been the lush forest scenery. Her long blonde hair was dragging across the ground as it usually did, and she quickly gathered it up in a heap in her arms as if to protect it from something, or someone. Did I wander off and take a wrong turn? But- there wasn’t a town here before. We were in the forest and Flynn Ryder was leading the way… “Flynn?” Rapunzel turned her head suddenly as she realized that he had been beside her, but now there was no sign of the thief who had promised to take her to see the floating lanterns near the castle. Where had he gone? Had he gotten lost or moved on ahead? Or, what if he had left her here? He made a promise. I’m sure he will be back soon… She tried to think to herself reassuringly. How could he leave her in this strange place where there might be ruffians on the loose, and worse yet a place she had never been before?

Tarrant woke with a start. The last thing he remembered was being hit with something in the back of the head and collapsing. He lifted his hat and saw the strange new world he had been brought to. It was nothing like Underland; the sun was not shining, yet its warmth could be felt, the plants were all new to him, and a gloom seemed to lay over everything. He stood and dusted himself off before heading in the direction of the town he could see.
As he was walking, he thought about what had happened to all his friends in Underland. Had they been captured as well? What about Alice? Was she safe? Tarrant shook his head, banishing the thought before it could bring on one of his fits. He had reached the edge of the town when he heard a voice. Tarrant turned in the direction he thought the voice had come from, and started to walk. Slowly, he made his way around a house, standing there, was a girl with long golden hair. He stepped towards her. “Miss, are you lost? Is there someone you are looking for?” He didn't want to be over frightening with his bright colours in this gloomy place.

Rapunzel’s eyes had widened and she quickly turned to face the stranger and gripped the frying pan she had been carrying in one hand while still holding her hair gathered up in the other. She had feared it had been a ruffian or a thug, but after she looked at Tarrant skeptically for a few moments she realized that he didn’t seem to look like a hostile person. He was maybe a bit colorful and eccentric, but not scary-looking and rough as she had imagined a ruffian might look like if she had ever met one. Plus, he seemed very polite, and so she finally decided that it would be ok to trust him for the time being. “Oh- yes, I think I am lost. I was following a man called Flynn Ryder, and he was supposed to take me to see the Floating Lanterns in the sky, only now I’m here and I can’t find him anywhere! You haven’t seen him walk by, have you?” Rapunzel asked the man, and really hoped that he would say that he had.

Tarrant stayed where he was as the girl looked him over. He waited until she spoke to break the silence between them. “Flynn Rider? I have not heard of a man with such a name, nor have I seen anyone.” He was a little confused when she told him about the floating lanterns.
Floating lanterns? I suppose there are stranger things in Underland, such as cake that makes you grow and a drink that makes you shrink. “I have not seen him, or these lanterns you speak of but I will help you find them.” Removing his hat, Tarrant swept down in a bow. “Tarrant Hightopp, at your service.” He put his hat back on as he stood up once more. “May I ask your name, Miss?” If he was going to help her, he would like to know to whom he was assisting.

“Oh…” Rapunzel dropped down her hair and looked a little crest-fallen when Tarrant said he hadn’t seen him. She found herself wondering a little hurt if Flynn had tricked her and left her here so that he could go back and find his satchel, but once again she tried to push that thought away before she could dwell on it too long. She had trusted him, and she didn’t know how anyone could go about breaking their promises so easily. When she made a promise, she most certainly meant them. Her eyes brightened though when Tarrant offered to help her find them and she jumped up and down once in excitement and smiled; “Really?! You’ll help me?” She stopped and tried to regain her composure before introducing herself with an attempted curtsy, “Of course! My name is Rapunzel,” The girl said.

Tarrant saw the girl's face fall in disappointment. He wasn't sure how he could help, he had never been good at making others feel better. Usually he would be the one needing to be comforted when he went off on one of his rants. Shaking his head, Tarrant shook those memories away. If he was ever going to get home, he needed to focus. He returned his attention on the girl, who was becoming much happier then before. When she jumped up and down, Tarrant couldn't help but smile at her excitement.
“Of course I'll help you. Two heads are better then one, even though one is mad.” Still smiling Tarrant continued to listen to her. “It's nice to meet you Rapunzel.” He bowed to her, after she curtsied. “Now, have you any idea where we are?” Tarrant looked at the small town they appeared to be in. Nothing looked familiar at all.

"It's nice to meet you too, and thank you so much for your help!" Rapunzel replied with a smile. They were sure to find either Flynn or the lanterns if they worked together, or so she was convinced. She looked puzzled at his question. “Um… well, I’m not sure. I was walking in the forest near my tower and then I stumbled into this place. It looks like some sort of a village. I thought maybe you lived here,” Rapunzel said as she glanced around at their surroundings again and observed the village houses. She had never seen an actual village before, aside from in storybooks. If she had just somehow wandered here from the forest Flynn had guided her through, then it wouldn’t have been far from her tower, but nothing about these surroundings felt familiar to her. The only thing that seemed somewhat close to what she was used to was the roar of a nearby waterfall, though it was much louder than the one that had fell behind her tower.
